Practical guide
Change ChatGPT’s contrast and text size
Make controls and answers easier to distinguish. Compare one setting at a time using the same chat.
Based on product documentation. Examples and suggested prompts are editorial advice.
Before you start
Use ChatGPT on the web or in the Windows app for the contrast controls described here. Mobile appearance settings use a different path.
Change contrast
- Select your profile icon.
- Open Settings.
- Select General.
- Set Appearance to Light for your first comparison.
- Set Contrast to Increased.
- Return to the same chat and compare its text and controls.
Enlarge the interface
In the Windows app, open Settings > General > Text size and use the plus button. Reset restores the default. In a browser, use its zoom menu. Try 125% first, then check whether the message box and navigation remain usable.
What to look for
You should be able to find the message box, read an answer and distinguish a selected control. Choose the combination that works for you; dark mode is not automatically easier to read.
If a setting is missing
Confirm you are using the web or Windows app and update the app if needed. Contrast is not documented for every platform. Use browser zoom as a fallback. To undo the change, select Medium or System under Contrast.
Availability and limits
Options vary by platform, version, account, plan and rollout. Increased contrast currently has its clearest effect in light appearance. Appearance is set per device or platform; check each one you use.
