Practical guide
Ask Copilot about selected PowerPoint Live text
As an attendee, select slide text and read an explanation beside the presentation when this feature is available.
Based on product documentation. Examples and suggested prompts are editorial advice.
Before you start
Microsoft lists this attendee feature for Windows under roadmap 557256. The presenter must share through PowerPoint Live. Ordinary screen sharing does not provide the same selectable slide content. Check Copilot access with your organisation.
Try the documented interaction
- Join a meeting as an attendee in Teams on Windows.
- Wait for a presentation shared through PowerPoint Live.
- Select a short piece of slide text.
- Use the available Copilot explanation interaction for the selection.
- Read the explanation in the side pane.
Try one unfamiliar term
Select an acronym you do not recognise. Check whether the explanation fits the sentence on the slide. If several meanings are possible, ask the presenter which one applies.
If the interaction is missing
Check that you are an attendee, the presentation uses PowerPoint Live and you are on the documented Windows platform. Ask IT about Copilot access and rollout. Request the term’s meaning in meeting chat as a fallback.
Availability and limits
The release notes confirm selected-text explanations but do not establish one universal button label or support on every device. This guide therefore does not promise an “Explain this” button. An explanation may miss the speaker’s intended meaning and does not make a chart accessible by itself.

Read a Teams meeting with live captions
Show spoken words as text during a meeting. You can use captions without asking Copilot to summarise the conversation.
Read guideKeep a Teams transcript for meeting follow-up
Use a transcript when you need to revisit spoken information. A summary is useful only when you can check it against a record.
